If you have a Palm® Pilot, I would like to introduce you to a fantastic flashcard program that I found very helpful when studying for boards. This program is called SuperMemo. It tracks your learning and adjusts when you see the card the next time based on whether you got it correct or not. You are quizzed more frequently on the ones you have trouble with and less frequently on the ones that you get easily. The program is a steal at $16 and can be obtained at www.mapletop.com.
I'm working on converting all of the question databases we have into SuperMemo files for the convenience of everyone. Follow the instructions below to download these files:
1) Click on the SuperMemo link that you are interested in. When prompted, select "Save file".
2) Unzip the file using readily available software (click here or here for some free software that can unzip these files).
3) Locate the file with the PDB (Palm
Data Base) extension and double click it. This will open the Palm install
tool, and after selecting Done you can HotSync your device to finish the
installation.
To track your learning, you need to commit the cards. This can be done following the instructions below:
1) Turn on your Palm and select the SuperMemo icon.
2) Choose the database you want to work with. You should see a screen like this one:
3) Select "Category" and "Commit".
4) It will ask you if you want to commit all cards, respond "yes."
You can also commit each card individually, but I've found it is easier to commit them as a group and delete or uncommit the cards that I don't find useful.
These instructions are meant to get you started. MapleTop software has a pretty extensive users manual and FAQ link at their web page. Please refer to it if you have additional questions.
