Antwain Howard, DVM, DACLAM, is a senior clinical veterinarian at Covance Laboratories located in Greenfield, Indiana.  In 2008 he obtained his veterinary medical degree from Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama after which he successfully completed a 3yr laboratory animal medicine residency at Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA.  During his time at Stanford he was able to publish several research manuscripts in major peer reviewed journals.  In 2011 after completion of his residency at Stanford he became a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine and  shortly there after accepted a position at Covance. He is a current member of AALAS and an active member of the Tuskegee Veterinary Medical Alumni Association. 

Dog in Biomedical Research: The dog has been used in biomedical research since the1600’s.  Various disease processes in dogs are homologus to those seen in humans making them a valuable resource for drug development, surgery and medical device implantation just to name a few.  Although dogs represent only a small portion of animals used in research they continue to play a pivotal role in the developemnt of human and veterinary  treatment therapies for various disease conditions.
